kick drum pedal for Alesis dm10
« on: July 04, 2023, 01:14:11 PM »
Hello Everyone,
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the best kick drum pedal to go with an Alesis dm10 kit.  I currently use a Mapex single-chain pedal, which is pretty good, but I wondered what other brands and types might best go with the kit.
Many thanks, best wishes,
Mike

Hi Mike.

My best advice is to use whatever pedal you feel comfortable with. Any pedal would/should work.
My current setup is utilizing 5 bass drums.
Two Pearl Demon Drives on my main kit which consists of old DM6 pads ran through a Strike module.
A trick Bigfoot on my Yamaha DM12 Multi pad.
A Drumnetics magnetic drive pedal on my Strike multi pad.
And a Pearl Redline Eliminator strap drive with purple cam on my Alesis Sample pad.
I have a ton of different pedals that I swap in and out on all of my bass drums including 2 Dualists, a Cannon twin effect pedal, Iron cobra Juniors. Iron Cobra Speed cobras etc.etc.
The bottom line is any and all pedals should work for you it just depends on what you like and what you feel most comfortable playing.
I prefer direct drive although I have strap and single/double chain drives.
I do waffle back and forth with long boards vs. short boards though.
My Demon drives are set up as long boards but they are shorter than the Speed cobras and the Tricks....BUT, I also like the feel of the Eliminators and the Drumnetics which are both short boards.
I do not use double pedals on single bass drum heads though.
I have and they worked for me but I prefer individual heads for individual pedals.
My bass drum heads are all rubber either Alesis DM type pads or Yamaha KP65 kick towers so I can use whatever type beater face I want either plastic or felt.
I don't have any mesh heads but I've seen others advise NOT to use felt beaters on mesh heads as it will cause undue wear and tear on the heads.

Hope this helps.

Hello powerhouse,
I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  Thank you very much, this is all really helpful.  I'm using wood or plastic for the kick-drum beater so avoiding felt (I have a Mapex triple-surface head which is very useful.)
I wondered if I could ask something else.  The frame for my DM10 kit is still ok but I wondered if it was possible to get spare frame parts and clamps in case anything needs replacing.
With many thanks again - you sound like you have a terrific set-up.
Best wishes,
Mike

The DM10 uses the Industry Standard 1.5 inch Tubing , so you can use anything Gibraltar.
What to watch out for is early DM10 Kits had slip on clamps..later the Hatched Clamps were released.
I have seen the Hatch Style Clamps go for as much as Gibraltar clamps..probably for users expanding their current kits and want the same style/matching clamps.

Alesis Chrome Tubing is slightly smaller and the slip on type clamps will have to be spread to maximum and forced on Gibraltar Tubing....especially around the bends.I don't know whether the tubing is metric or just less plating..it's not much smaller.
Gibraltar clamps will work fine with Alesis tubing,it's the one piece Alesis slip on clamps that can be difficult with Gibraltar Tubing.

Sweetwater is the best place for Gibraltar as they also offer "Bundles" and typically free shipping. There are some sellers that may offer some items cheaper..but add a big shipping cost.
There are usually more of a variety for "Bundles" in their ebay store.

You can also get Alesis Factory Replacement parts from Instrumentalparts..shipping policy is good , but older/obsolete items are at a premium.

Hi Mike

When I bought my DM10 module way back when, I bought it and the DM10 cable snake from Silverline audio and have had no issues or complaints with either the service or the products that I bought from them.
I see they are one of the sellers listed for various Alesis racks and such on Amazon.
I don't know if they will have exactly what you are looking for or not and as Chaser noted, you can't go wrong with Sweetwater or Gibraltar.
I have since switched from the DM10 to a Strike module but I'm still using my original DM6 rack.

Hope this helps.
