I see that you can change kits by sending MIDI data, but does anyone know if there is a way to change kits by just using one of the drum zones? For example, tom 4 rim moves the kit up 1?
Short answer ..No.
The STRIKE Module is extremely limited when it comes to Program Changes..it can only receive.
Only Note ON and OFF are sent by the Triggers except for the Hi Hat that has the option in UTILITY to turn OFF Splash, CC4.
You can also turn OFF Cymbal Choke Notes under UTILITY.
The STRIKE Module recognizes PC messages that correspond to the kits listed in the current folder..ie individual Kit/Preset as numbered in the Kit Folder or CC#118 to increment or CC#119 decrement by one kit.
MIDI CC LISTUndefined MIDI CC List CC 3
CC 9
CC 14-15
CC 20-31
CC 85-87
CC 89-90
CC 102-119
Typically PC message is sent for GM Backing Voice (ch1) or GM Kit Bank (ch10) in Modules that have GM Mode and a GM Section (Alesis/Medeli Rebrands ..DD514 Nitro/Surge..DD650 Command,Crimson,II,DM10 MKII Studio,Forge...DD638 DM10 MKII Pro all have GM Kits/Banks...
GM Sections or Percussion Section have been removed from most Modules on the Market.
I posted a Topic on
Advanced Module Technique where you can use a MIDI Controller (TriggerIO works very well) and it will send a Kit change to the Digital Section..and a Bank Change to the GM Section.."Stacking" Instruments etc..but received No response,so I took that as No Interest..
The STRIKE Module,STRIKE Multipad along with the Sample Series (Samplepad Pro and Samplerack) do Not have a GM Section or GM Mode.
PC was implemented in the STRIKE Module v1.3 when there were only 110 Kits (v1.2) + the v1.3 (Power Station Kits) so 112 Total.Since there isn't a Kit 0 (Zero) I presume Alesis/Medeli used 1-128..altho there is a GM Bank Zero (eDRUMin uses PC 0-127..but only through Pedal Usage if I remember correctly).
The current (probably Final) Module Kit count is 136..(137 New User Kit)....MIDI numbers 129-137 Do Not exist.
Sending CC#118 or CC#119 to the STRIKE Module is still "Next/Previous" Kit.
The STRIKE Multipad can send Program Changes using Pads/Pedals per "Hit" and can be set to Increment/Decrement (Next/Previous)
one Kit per Hit.. a specific Program Change cannot be assigned in these settings so you cannot select a specific Kit/Preset number.
The Pads/Pedals will also send Note ON/OFF along with the Program Change. The SMP sends the same 118-119 as I have tested it with the STRIKE Module.
If you are using Vst/Software You can program MIDIOX to convert incoming NOTE ON/OFF messages to PROGRAM CHANGE and route it back.
