DM10 Pro 12" pad fails
« on: July 24, 2023, 07:24:32 AM »
Hey fellow musicians new member here. Also new owner of the dm10 Pro. This will be my second ever electronic drum kit and I had planned on making it my last but 2 weeks into owning it I'm really not sure about that. I've had two 12 inch pads totally fail on me and the last one is showing signs of wanting to do the same thing. I have a ticket made up to alesis to discuss warranty issues and such. My question to anybody who wants to respond or listen or read would be for anybody who has experience with the dm10 pro kit. When the first pad started showing signs of failing I decided to research what was going on and opened up the first 12 inch pad and lo and behold same exact shit happened to my 12-in pads as I researched and found out from other dm10 owners most of them we're very unhappy with just how the components were put together. One of the things they discussed would be the center resonating plastic ring that bridges over the middle and to add sensitivity, I'm guessing, right before going into or towards the center zoid ( trigger) they narrowed it down to about 1/8" That's the first thing to fracture. After that it's been the black wire going from the volume adjuster knob to the center drum trigger, that wire breaks completely in half. Absolutely not the wire to have used to wire these pads. So with that said brand new drum kit not even a month old having to deal with broken shit, do I still want this same kit? And also, how Alesis is with their customer service and warranty service. I don't know, hopefully I can get some answers here because I am one very frustrated and pissed off drummer right now. Ideas on quicker fixes and beefing up that section with glue tape I don't know something to prevent it from being so weak and happening again would be appreciated also. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum !
I presume you are talking about the DM10 MKII Pro..the DM10 Pro is entirely different..different module , triggers etc etc. and was discontinued many years ago..and would have been out of warranty years ago.

Sorry to hear about all the problems..like the early STRIKE kits there were issues with new trigger designs that supposedly were resolved later on.
There hasn't been many complaints for the DM10 MKII Pro triggers in the Forum for quite awhile (also a New design..and specifically for this model)..but it appears it may not have been entirely resolved or  maybe the Kit is from earlier inventory?..can't say for sure, the modules Serial Number would probably give an indication to Alesis.
The DM10 MKII Pro Kit is also well past the typical  EOL (End of Life..5 years) If it's under warranty I would keep after them so you have a paper trail of attempted contact and as last resort file to get your money returned (if it was paid with Credit Card etc) if no response.
Companies tend to Void warranties if they think the customer disassembled/tampered etc etc...so I would refrain from doing it for now until you get some kind of response or make a decision which way to go.

A user from years ago had a Bad experience with the DM10 MKII Pro around 2018..
Judging by your post..you are headed down the same path...

Here are a few of the Topics/Posts....you can click on the user name to view all of the posts/experiences..etc

VandalX..DM10 MKII Pro Experience (2018)

One month, two failures.

DM10 MKII Pro...part two: The Failure

Repair broken/failing mesh head triggers

Trigger removal/replacement

12" tom failure #5 (or so, I stopped counting)

EDIT:
Fixed Bad Link

Man, I really appreciate the information I mean a lot of the things that you said is news to me especially how long the dm10 pro has been available. And also what you talked about as far as the fixes on that kit so with your response I went from probably sitting on this thing and dealing with it and dealing with Elisa's to I'm going to package the whole fucking thing back up in the original box and send it in and I'm going to put my money towards the strike Pro it'll be more money but I think worth it thanks again.

Happy to Help..
Just make sure when requesting information or contacting Alesis Support you refer to the correct Model..
Alesis (InMusic) created a lot of confusion using the same name for multiple Kits..Original DM10 Pro/Studio/X ..which had an Alesis/inhouse Module and Medeli Triggers..except Pro which came with Surge(Smart Trigger Cymbals)..DM10 MKII Studio (Medeli DD650 Re-brand..Medeli triggers)....DM10 MKII Pro (Medeli DD680 Re-brand..Medeli triggers)
The DM10 Pro was released in 2010 for 1 year..then discontinued..the DM10 MKII Pro was released in 2017.
If you requested warranty info on the DM10 Pro Kit it will be ignored by support as the Kit was discontinued well over 10 years ago.

Well thanks for all the information man I really really appreciate it. So just to let you know where I'm at, Alesis is sending me three brand new 12-in dual zone drum pads for the dm10 MK I I Pro as we speak so I should be receiving those in about 5 to 7 days. While speaking with a technician about the situation he asked me to take my hand Palm down and press on the middle of the drum head to see if it would compress or give a little bit and I did and it gave a little bit. That's when he made the decision and agreed to send me new drum heads because according to him the drum kit was manufactured in 2021 and until I purchased it sat on a shelf for 2 years and the drum heads stretched out causing too much deflection in turn with the sticks coming in contact with the drum head then too much deflection in turn causing the internal parts to fail break or such. Since he agreed to send me some new drum heads I didn't argue with him LOL but I will say that I feel that the whole setup inside that drum head is set up to fail so what I'm going to do with these new pads is tighten up the drum head quite a bit more and then I might even do a little buffing up so to speak on the inside with the thin shitty wires that they use and that plastic bridge on the resonator I don't know put some clear tape over it or something anybody has any suggestions that'd be awesome thanks
