 Just a quick question about the Snare/ Rim shot and cross sticking with the Strike module. Has anyone had any luck succeeding?    Seems to be unattainable by me. Thanks

Hi Robert,

I moved you topic to where I thought would be a better place in the forum.

To your question: It might be a quick one, but it's not as quick of a solution. The Strike module is not able to have true independent detection of cross stick and rim shot. It can be "faked" using a technique called velocity switching. If I remember correctly (sorry I'm not currently using a Strike module) there are two different ways to do this.

One is using the Velocity settings: An example of this can be seen with the custom kit I put together in this topic:
Strike Module Custom Kits

The other way (I think it's still in the module) is using the Velocity Switching parameter as mentioned here:
*NEW* Alesis Strike "Zone" and Stike "Pro"

I did a quick search on youtube and found a video that talks about the Velocity menu in the Strike module that might be helpful:
ALESIS STRIKE || Editing Velocities

(Taken from a post about the Alesis DM10 but it applies to the Strike as well)
The theory behind this trick is that cross stick tends to be a softer hit (lower velocity) than a rim shot (higher velocity). So, when hitting the rim at lower velocities we want to trigger a cross stick sound. As we hit the rim harder we want the sound to change to a rim shot sound. This type of set-up is possible on the DM10 (Strike) at the instrument level. This means you will need to set this up for each kit you want to have a pseudo three zone snare on.
