Getting started with Alesis IO

Howdy,
 I have a DM10 MKII Pro. Since I’m using the Pro X hi hat, I have the original hi hat pad to use as an additional trigger pad. I bought an Alesis IO and have connected it to the MKII module via midi and the hihat pad via a mono cable to one of the cymbal inputs on the IO. I’m not sure what to do next. I’d like to use it as a China cymbal. I thought I could just hit the pad to get started but there seems to be more to it.

I have the DM10 MKII Studio.  Was wondering how you connected the ProX Hihat?

Will the Pro X hi hat work with the MKII pro module as well?
Had asked at a local music store and they tell me it works with the 'old" DM 10 only.
Maybe a video link to check it?
