Headphones/Drum Monitor Recommendations
« on: April 15, 2010, 08:47:24 AM »
Hi All,

Last night I was painfully reminded what a difference a set of good headphones makes.. The headphones that came bundled with my kit (Audio Technica ATH-M20) were in my car, and I was frankly too lazy at the time  to get them - that is, until I used my iPod headphones for a bit.. eew.

Since so much of the experience of edrumming is in the last few feet of cabling, I wanted to ask what people are using (and recommending) for headphones or drum monitors. (That and I'm pseudo shopping for a good drum monitor.. hehe).

All the best (grooves),

I use custom made headphones. They are made with isolation headphones (used for target shooting) and I put some drivers (ear speakers) from a pair of Koss headphone that I liked from about 10 years ago. I use these as monitor headphones during gigs. I know it doesn't help when trying to by headphones but, I thought I would chime in so people realize that you can DIY a solution.

there's an article about headphones in the april edition of that edrum magazine.  I can't find the link at the moment, sorry.
I use Shure SRH240 headphones.  They are "ok", in my opinion.

I remember seeing that.. I think it was digital drummer.. good article too. :)

I like the ATH-M20's that I have, overall.. they do distort a bit at high volumes, but they handle most kit sounds well. Comfy too.

I just don't want to play out and look like the cloud city bodyguard with studio cans on my head.  ;D
