Kits at the music stores

Has anyone noticed how a lot of the mesh kits (which also have a mesh bass drum) have pedals that use felt beaters?
 I saw a very high end Roland set with a hole in the mesh, (through the first Ply) but getting ready to rip the second one... It just hurts my hearth so I told the drum guy there that felt beaters are a no no on mesh heads!, plastic or wood beaters are fine because they don't chew the mesh. I guess if I was wanting to get a sweet deal on a lightly used display set , I could have just let them be and come back a few weeks later and ask for the "damaged unit, and get it for a lot cheaper... I would feel dishonest if I didn't say anything though....
