So I recently got a new 18 inch ride cymbal and want to use the old ride as a larger crash pad. After messing around with it, it seems like that it will only send a signal to the module if something is plugged in to both inputs on it. I tried a dummy plug, but that didn't work. It seems like the pad wants two active lines to the module to send anything to the module.
Has anyone done this before? Would a Y splitter potentially work for something like this?
Welcome to the Forum !
The STRIKE Triple (3) zone ride outputs are tied together as a circuit as are the jacks on the module.
The outputs do not function independently so you can't just connect the outputs to different inputs on a module. The 2 cable Ride will function as a Dual Zone by using a dummy plug in either of the output jacks and get it to work as a dual zone.
If you insert TRS cable into A... a (Headphone) adapter/dummy plug in B...Bell and Bow triggers work separately, but you get no Edge and no Choke.
Insert a (Headphone) Adapter/dummy plug into A....cable into B you get Edge/Choke,but no Bell or Bow.
You always need something in one of the outputs on the Ride, whether it's a dummy plug or a TRS cable to the Ride 1 input on the module.
The STRIKE module requires a (2) Cable (TRS) Ride to function as a 3 Zone Ride...Ride 2 input (10/Edge-Choke) won't work for anything else as it completes the circuit and doesn't function as a normal input. You may hear a Faint Edge Sound (Using a TRS Cable)..but it won't light up on the display
The STRIKE Module does not have the Feature to split the 2 inputs into separate inputs as the Original DM10 did..
In the Original DM10 Module there was an option you could change a 2 cable 3 Zone Ride to a Dual (Dummy Plug) or triple Zone Ride and Free up one of the inputs.
The STRIKE Module doesn't have this option..Ride 2 (10) works as the 2nd part of the Ride Circuit..or nothing..you can select Note Chase and watch under the Trigger menu and it will change Triggers when hitting the bow or pinching the edge switch..but no sample will trigger.
EDIT:I forgot to mention..if you use a single cable (3) Triple Zone Cymbal into Ride 1 Input , you'll get Bow/Bell/Choke..The Bell will Trigger on the Bell and/or Edge switch
