dm10 (mk1) module - hihat query
« on: October 25, 2022, 04:04:21 PM »
hello

newbie here - i'm looking to buy a 2nd hand dm10 module. Does anyone know whether the hihat trigger input is dual or just single, please? Also, has anyone used a drum-tec continuous hi hat controller with the DM10? If so, how well did it work?

many thanks

Welcome to the Forum !..

The input is hard-wired single zone...however if you were using the module as a sound module and an external MIDI controller there are MIDI notes for a dual zone Hi Hat.
You can also setup a MIDI loop and use a Dual Zone Hi Hat Cymbal and Dual Zone input.

The Drum-Tec Universal Controller is a knock off of the Roland VH10/VH11 (same controller..VH11 cymbal is lighter)...same as a Goedrum controller, except Goedrum starting offering one specifically for Alesis around a year or so ago.(Goedrum GHC-AN)
These type of controllers use a slide pot and biggest complaints(one of them) is hard to splash...you'll read about a lot of Roland users dissatisfied with it and have gone to pedal controller.
The Goedrum website has been down for years so information is limited other than doing a web search of the part number

"The Drum-Tec Universal Controller replaces the controller of the Roland VH-11 and VH-10 Hi-Hat and is compatible with the Roland modules TD-17, TD-27, TD-50, TD-50X, the Pearl Mimic Pro, the GEWA G9 and G5, the Nux DM-7X and other modules.."

The product description is vague as far as actually using Alesis modules..

"Can be integrated into many E-Drum modules"
"Can be played with cymbal pads from Roland, Pearl, ATV, Nux, Alesis and Gewa"

"other modules".."many modules"..most Hi Hat Controllers "will work"..how well it works depends on the Hi Hat Controllers range.
Roland VH10/11 controller has a much shorter/smaller range than Alesis..

Also check the original DM10 modules Trigger OS version and see if it is for the Realhat(continuous/Variable)..or was it updated to the Pro-X which is FSR.Once updated to FSR you cannot downgrade...any attempt to do so has consequences including the possibility of bricking the module...
