Separate triggers for tom and the tom's rim

Hi Y'all,
I'm new to the forum and need a little help with my new set. It's an Alesis Strata Prime and I have the latest firmware update. I want to make the tom head sound like a regular tom, but the tom rim sound like a cowbell. I had an older Alesis set about 3 years ago (don't recall the model) that I sold. It was able to to this. This set, however does not. If I edit the kit so that the rim is a cowbell, the head takes on the same sound (cowbell). If I try to change the head back to a tom, the rim now sounds like the tom head. I've tried to use the xtalk feature to no avail. Any suggestions?

I have the Core (pretty much the same module) and successfully used the "stacks" feature to do the exact thing you are trying.  I understand your issue as it is not spelled out in the instructions on how to specifically perform this function.  Here are the instructions from my manual and be sure to select the rim ("hit select" works well) and save the edits as a user kit.
Select the Stack to be edited by tapping this object, which includes an image of the currently loaded Articulation or Kit Piece. The parameter carousel represents the parameters for the articulation of the stack, NOT the main kit piece.
To create layered kit pieces (multiple sounds stacked on each other):
1. From Edit Mode, tap the Stacks option.
2. Tap to enable to Hit Select function.
3. Hit a drum to jump to that trigger input.
4. Tap a Stack number and select the Articulation you want to assign to that stack from the browser list.
5. Tap the checkmark or press the Main Encoder to assign the Articulation to the stack. Repeat this for each of the stacks.
