Help with sensitivity and threshold on Alesis Nitro Pro
« on: June 24, 2025, 08:50:24 AM »
Hello,

I'm a complete beginner on the edrum world. I bought an Alesis Nitro Pro and I'm happy with it but I don't understand some parameters like sensitivity and threshold. I read the manual but I don't know which parameters are better for me. I'm having issues with the kick tower, the ride and crash. Sometimes the pads miss a hit or sound at lower volume.

Can someone help me??

Welcome to the Forum !

Sensitivity and Threshold are part of the Basics for any Drum Module.
There are multiple Posts/Topics in the Forum (SEARCH - Upper Left).
The procedure is the same for All Drum Modules.
The more advanced the Module..the more advanced settings are available for Trigger Settings.

The Sensitivity and Threshold are probably the (2) most important settings getting started..
Trigger settings control how drums and cymbals respond to your playing style which you are starting to develop. You will be adjusting these over time as you develop your style.

New Users tend to do the opposite as they still haven't developed a Playing Style and crank up the sensitivity and lower the Threshold as the pads will trigger easier..however this is incorrect and you will have issues..
Out of the Box the Module is set up for Universal Playing styles..a starting point.
There isn't a Universal setting that works for everyone as it depends on playing style, which is different for everyone.
Someone who is a Metal Player tends typically hit harder and doesn't require the Dynamics that someone who is a Jazz Player would require.

You want the Lowest Sensitivity possible with the Highest Threshold Possible...
Adjust the Sensitivity first..then the Threshold.
If the Sensitivity is set too high and the Threshold too low..you will trigger the Loudest Sound with the Softest Hit....No Dynamics

SENSITIVITY
Sensitivity is the gain level for each drum or cymbal zone.
Increase sensitivity for a more sensitive response or decrease it to require a harder hit.

Higher sensitivity detects even light hits (soft hits are louder).
Lower sensitivity requires more force to get the maximum range (0 to 127).

THRESHOLD
The Threshold setting is the minimum strike force detected/required, and any trigger signal beneath this threshold value is ignored.
A lower threshold detects light taps for triggering
A higher threshold requires stronger hits for triggering
Avoid setting the threshold too low to prevent accidental triggering.
(0 and the module may start "False" triggering on it's own.)

Here's a Video..it is for earlier Nitro Modules, however as mentioned before the same procedure applies to All Drums Modules.

Alesis Surge & Nitro Modules | Adjusting & Understanding Trigger Settings

The Nitro Max is the 3rd Gen of the Nitro Series..to stay at it's price point it is still using the Older style toms/mounting etc with DM6 Rack , which is a Non Standard rack setup made up of multiple Tubing sizes and specific Clamps that are not Interchangeable with other Racks.

The Nitro Pro uses the 1-1/2 Standard Rack with Standard Trigger Mounting...overall much better than the Nitro Max Kit by far.

As far as the New 3rd Gen BFD Nitro Modules..other than the color they appear to be identical...however..they are Not.
The Nitro Pro has more 4 Kits and 72 more Instruments/Articulations than the Nitro Max..see attached
