Strata core module not loading
« on: June 12, 2025, 03:09:47 PM »
not sure of this is the right place to post this but looking for some advise.
new out of the box today, And the module will not boot.
it worked for the best part of 30 secs after I skipped the enabling of WiFi just to try it out, since then it was stuck on the update page and wouldn?t do anything.
I have managed to force update it via a laptop but it will not go past the alesis drum logo on the module. I am at a loss.
any Information would be appreciated

Welcome to the Forum !

There could be any number of reasons..forcing an update may not have been helpful..

Which Version Firmware?
Do you have an idea which Firmware the Module came with originally or did you skip to current update? (1.3)...
Did you disconnect ALL Cables..Trigger Harness etc etc before applying the Update?

The only option I know of as you can't do a Factory reset unless your in the Modules Menu..

Disconnect ALL Cables including the Trigger Harness..
Hold Down the Metronome (Settings) button on Power up..

If that doesn't work you will need to raise a Support Ticket..

see this Topic Strata CORE Module Issues

There was an issue with the file system on some of the early Modules and a Fix released..

Alesis has identified an issue with some of the earliest Strata Core modules that may cause the module to intermittently freeze during power up. Fortunately, we have a fix in place with firmware update v1.2.1 that can correct this and any filesystem problems stemming as a result of the failed power up.

I?m unsure on which firmware was installed out of the box.
But after reading a firmware update might resolve the issue I forced one via usb-b and laptop using inmusic software so it is now on 1.3 according to inmusic
all cables were unplugged whilst doing the update.
I will attempt the method you have suggested when I get home as that is one I have not tried yet

There hasn't been a lot of information on trouble shooting gathered in this Forum for the Strata Series Modules as participation has shifted from Forums to Facebook groups.

I don't know exactly if skipping updates has an effect on these modules...or if you can downgrade/Roll back an Update.
It seems like skipping one that fixed the file system would be necessary for the next update to install correctly...unknown.
They are more of a Computer/Operating System whereas the STRIKE Series had Eproms that were erased and New Firmware installed and Content (Instruments,Kits,Samples) to a SD Card.
The STRIKE Modules you can/could downgrade the Firmware whereas the original DM10 Module you couldn't.
If you attempted a downgrade you risked "Bricking" the Module.

The STRIKE "Closet" Modules had the issue where they were purchased and put away for years then the user would pull them out..install the Final update and resell on Ebay,Reverb etc etc.
The issue is/was if you put it away with an earlier Firmware then updated to the Final 1.5 version..you skipped updates that installed Content.

Alesis removed all of the Links for earlier Updates as it was presumed Modules were being updated along the way and after 2019 only the Final v1.5 is available as All New Modules were released with the update.

I still see numerous Modules that had v1.2..then skipped to the Final v1.5 update and while now having all of the Kit Presets , the Content added in v1.3 and v1.4 wasn't in the Module so you will have issues/errors.

The previously mentioned Soft Reset is the only known workaround.
Hopefully it will help you out and get you into the Module and then perhaps a Factory Reset
If that doesn't work you will need to raise a Support Ticket..
Personally I would see if the Soft reset works and if you gain access to the Module and check the Firmware version under Settings.

There was a 1.30 Update and a 1.3.1.3 which just added Presets etc for the CORE Club Kit...so if indeed it was an early CORE Module sitting in a Warehouse since release it may have had the Original Firmware.
I posted All of the Updates with Change logs,Link s etc and keep it as current as possible.

Alesis Drums CORE Module Updates

I No longer know anyone with "Insight" at BFDDrums as Drew..the Product owner of BFD is no longer with BFDDrums and InMusic.
I presume the acquisition of BFD and all of the Obligations,Terms etc etc has been completed.
There still isn't an Electronic Drum section in the BFDDrums Forum.
I would check with Support before doing a Factory Reset (just to be on the safe side) in case additional steps taken (Forced Update while Module wasn't placed into Update Mode) caused more issues to undo.Perhaps something as simple as the Factory Reset will help..Unknown.
I haven't seen the Chatbot operational for awhile..it was in Beta.
You can also check the Facebook Groups.
