Alesis Strike Amps...only way to go?
« on: October 29, 2024, 06:27:03 PM »
Why is it that the Strike Amps from Alesis are 2000 to 2500 watts while amps from Donner, ddrum, and Roland are under 200 watts and in some cases even much lower?

I tried running through a sampson expidition express (75 watts) but can't get the volume up loud enough to jam when my guitar freind comes over.

Do you have any recommendations for an amp for my Crimson 2 SE, I see some people use powered speakers instead.

Thanks!

Keep in mind when Alesis claims 2000 watts, they mean peak watts. I doubt that is the driving wattage.

If you really want your kit to sound full, you might want to consider a pair of powered speakers. Not just one. I know that can be pricey, but that will sound a heck of a lot better than just one amp.

I personally have the a pair of Simmons DA2112's. They sound great and have plenty of volume to play along with a band. You could probably get a way with just one of those, but if you go with the smaller DA2108's you will need two to get a good volume while jamming.

I bought a pair of Samson Expeditions (the 50W ones I think) and when I jammed with my band I didn't even have to crank them up, they were quite loud in our basements. I started with them up at about chest level, on a pair of Samson stands and eventually put them on the floor as wedges just a bit behind my drums. As Chaser says, big difference if you have a pair, not just one. Also that way you get the panning/stereo effect which is more realistic than a mono output.
