When I was a kid I went to see Eric Clapton with my dad and stepmother.  Her brother is Jamie Oldacker and after that show all I wanted was to play the drums, and once I got a set that's all I did.

I have corrected the link. :v Ved Buens Ende. A very particular set of Black Metal with some groovy drumming and melodic basslines. I shall share another.

Any of Van Halen's songs will do, but this one is an all-time favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wABFxY1uv0

I started drumming with early British and US bands, but after a long break my interest was revived by guys like Portnoy and Mangini.
Here's a studio session of MP I like to try playing with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZojxciNskU  (mainly from 41 min in)

I like most of the songs of Linkin Park and The Beatles which made me crazy to beat drum. They are awesome singers of their time and I love to listen when feel sad.

Nice stuff, Jetsam. I play along to almost anything I've got in my music collection and love to put it to random and just see what happens..sometimes I'll get something hilarious like a pop song from one of our teens.. I was playing to Arianna Grande the other day, but what the heck, it was fun to improvise.. other times it's Maroon 5, or Bruno Mars.. but I'm more of a rock, blues, jazzy kinda player so love it when my old Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Hendrix etc comes up. But I'll play to old Kiss songs, or new stuff like Ed Shearan, Howie Day, then go crazy with some Hoobastank or Simple Plan or Linkin Park.. and then all of a sudden it's some Celine Dion song, lol. One guy I've been enjoying playing to is Johnny Lang, blues kid.. excellent sounding recordings, great singer/guitar player, and with Addictive Drums the sound I get is phenomenal so a great experience to play to

Wow, that Lester is a powerhouse.. love his setup, cymbals are low, excellent sound to his kit.. I liked how he tosses the little splash on that side snare for effect at one point. He's got one of those throne thumpers set up to give him feedback from the kick as he plays.. very cool video

I might put my converted snare on the left like he has.  There's two snares there!  Of course, I have to actually set my DM10 kit up first!!!  LOL!!!

Hahaha, yes, get to it! I've had mine for about two years and I keep changing my arrangement to suit my pref for the month! When I got my first add-on snare (a Hart Dynamics) I put my Alesis snare over on the left for a bit. Was fun. But my basement area is cramped and I eventually swapped that 12" down onto the kick stand.. that was neat... looked good too, made the set seem bigger and it was. Then I built up a kit at a buddies so I brought the Hart snare over there and the 12" from the kick became one of the lower toms. I ordered a snare and kick from Laurin Drums out near Montreal so they're now incorporated into my DM10X which has an 8" and 10" upper tom and the two 12" lowers.. for a while I had two 8's on a concert tom stand in over my hi-hat.. very Neil Peart.. but again space was limited and I needed one of them for the buddy's place setup.. I've had my cymbals high, low, this way and that.. it's a bit limiting with the built in boom stands on the corner posts. Was a time I used a separate stand for the ride, but then we got a keyboard and it's against one wall and I can hardly get into the drums..maybe if I lost 15 pounds... I'm concerned if and when I buy the Strike Pro kit it'll take up the hole corner end of our tiny basement..suppose the old couch will have to go

Oh those Strike kits are nice!  One thing I really like about this DM10 kit is that the drums LOOK like acoustic drums.  I didn't want an alien drum set.  Lol!!  I am going to wrap mine in some sort of veneer as soon as I get a chance.  Haven't decided yet if I want curly maple or maybe zebrawood or possibly birdseye maple.  It's gonna happen though.  My old snare I am going to convert is a Ludwig and pretty sure it is walnut.  Probably need to refinish it before I put it all back together.  It is buried in the attic right now and last I remember, I had taken it all apart and the heads were gone, which is fine as it will need a mesh head anyways.  Probably get a mesh for the bottom too.  I might have to refinish the hardware too.  Not sure yet.  Bummer I sold those rototoms I used to have!  I could have converted them too!!  LOL!

That will be quite cool. Definitely made my choice easier when I started looking for a kit, couldn't afford one of Roland's flagship kits or the full on Hart Dynamics or Yamaha, so for the thousand or so to get a huge DM10X with double floor toms, 2 crashes, a large ride etc there was no comparison. Then for me, I went for white mesh to have it look more like an acoustic, plus the snare and kick upgrade to deeper shells (went for wood grain).. then recently I bought a cheap roll of room wall border tape and did my toms (the pics lighten it up some from the flash or lighting but in real life they're a deep dark navy blue with the subdued sparkle and it matches the woodgrain shells of the snare and kick, which are also darker in reality than what the pics show (http://www.alesisdrummer.com/index.php?topic=6464.msg44864#msg44864).. I definitely like my e-kit to at least look and feel like a larger set.. my first cheapy was horrid.. crappy Rockstar-like pads and that toy-like frame with the two side arm tubes, one for the snare, and the two floor tubes with rubber feet that was so wobbly it sucked bigtime.

The one I just returned to my buddy was a Simmons that was about $350 on sale.  It was not great, but at least it got me hooked again!!

No song made me want to play drums. I had a grandfather who was a pro drummer in the 20s in Chicago and my parents both wanted me to be a drummer. So I was given drum lessons but I was so young I have no clue when I started. Probably six or seven. Both parents have been dead for years so I can't ask them. The first song I can remember having an impact on me was Topsy Part 2 by Cozy Cole from 1958. One of the coolest jazz records of all time.

It wasn't songs, rather, it was drummers.
Sandy Nelson
Gene Krupa
Buddy Rich

I was struggling with learning guitar when I saw a friend of mine in the band room at school playing a basic trap beat on the School's Blue Ludwig Vistalite.

That simple beat not only sounded really cool, but it looked like a lot of fun to play. Gee, it sure took a long time to figure out how to coordinate that hi hat pedal among the beat though!

But, yeah... it was a drummer who inspired me to learn.

Band teacher said he couldn't teach me, but if I wanted to see if I could learn on my own, he'd sign me up for Band. I spent most of my study hall time learning as well. Two years later I took first place at State for drum solo in solo/ensemble. Kept that up through High School! I've still never had a lesson... 38 years later

I was given a toy drum in 1975, that lasted for about a day and the drum suddenly disappeared, but ever since I had a fascination with all things drums.
I was 5 years old back then. Fast forward to 1988 where I was able to buy myself a used Ludwig kit with no cymbals (hey I was really poor back then), got a set of HH and a crash and a ride a month later. many years and many drumsets later I am still here and still love drums like that time in 1975..
I think Tommy Lee (and not because of his drumming) but because he was the first drummer that I saw that looked like it was playing the hell out the drums. the first songs would be I was made for loving you (kiss), Hot for teacher, from VH, any of the songs from Keeper of the 7 keys from Helloween, or any of the songs from Beneath the Remains from Sepultura, Slayer Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven albums I memorized all of them, I can still play them pretty accurately to this day.  or a couple of the songs from the band Death I forgot the name of the album but the double bass work is just phenomenal. another one was King diamond, Mickey Dee the drummer for the albums Them and Abigail (who later went to work for Mothorhead.. a waste of talent if you ask me)  has some of the the tastiest fills and sections on both of those albums. What can I say I grew up listening to rock and transition to metal... Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche) on the Operation Mindcrime album, Never really been a fan of Portnoy (sorry if I offend anyone) I do like the collaboration he did when he played Stand Up and Shout from DIO with a bunch of other label artists, that song showcases what he can actually do better than the DT songs IMO. Lately any of the extreme metal drummers but I can't really play that fast anymore ( guess I could if I practice more) but for examples look at David Diepold in YT playing Fleshgod Apocalypse, man, some insane skill even if extreme metal is not your bag.
