Crimson 2 Kick Pad
« on: November 01, 2025, 11:07:43 AM »
Lately the kick pad on my Crimson 2 SE is not picking up light hits, I swapped in a tom pad and it does pick up light hits. I also swapped a KD10 and it too picks up light hits. So it is not the module settings.

I have an extra tom and I was wondering if the trigger from the tom can be swapped into the kick pad? I have not taken the tom pad apart so I am not sure they are the same configuration.

If not does anyone have any other suggestions? Can you just buy the trigger?

Thanks!!

In the past I would have suggested trying to fix the issue DIY style. Today I have a different take on things (plus I find not everyone is as handy as they think they are). You can take it apart if you want (if you feel comfortable doing that). I hope you know how to solder, because chances are a solder joint is cracked (either on the jack itself or at the piezo element). If you are not handy I would just find a replacement kick trigger. You might be able to buy used on ebay, facebook market place, or Reverb.

The kick drum is pretty straight forward, just one 27 mm piezo. I found a sampler pack on Amazon. My wire striper worked well on the tiny wires.

Once I put it back together it did not work, but when I tapped on the back of the bass drum it did trigger, so I took it apart again.

I have a strong suspicion that the problem all along was that the foam piece that sits on the piezo and rests against the drum head was not in contact with the head.

Once I added a piece of foam weatherstipping I had laying around it works like new!

So lesson, always check the most obvious first, I probably changed out the piezo for nothing but it was a learing experience!
