Looking for opinions on this before I get to go try one out.
I currently have a Yamaha M12 and previously had a Roland SPD-30.
The feel of the pads of the M12 are way too soft, and they don't work for intricate playing.
You've got to whack the upper and lower pads pretty hard in just the right spot compared to the middle 6.
They work well for single strikes and for playing with hands though.
The SPD-30 was better for playing with sticks, didn't work for hand playing,
couldn't load any samples, and had 2 layers instead of the 4 available on the M12.
I'm mainly wondering about the pad feel and sensitivity of the Strike pads
compared to the others available.
Also interested in opinions on the same thing from Samplepad Pro owners.
Edit: just got back from 'sort of' trying them. The GC I went to was a mess with nothing on display.
After finding someone to pull closed boxes off the top shelf, I got to try both (unplugged).
I was mainly interested in the feel.
The Strike is way too soft for my playing, just like the Yamaha.
But I'm sure it'd do just fine with single strokes, and firing off loops or whatever.
Sample Pad Pro was closer to what I was looking for as far as feel goes.
Didn't get to check out triggering response, but I'm putting the idea of getting either one on the back burner for now.
