Alesis DM10 trigger inputs 5, 6, 11, 12 do not work.
« on: July 29, 2025, 05:21:39 PM »
Hi all.
My Alesis DM10 trigger inputs 5 (TOM3), 6 (HI HAT), 11 (PERC2), 12 (PERC4) do not work.
I tried different cables and pads. I reset the settings to factory defaults, flashed the entire firmware from the Alesis website. I changed the trigger sensitivity - nothing helped. I connected a test signal from a signal generator to the input, tracked the signal to the STM controller. All these 4 trigger inputs come to one ADC STM channel. The signal shape on the STM pins does not differ from the signal shape on the working channels.
What could I have said? Are the settings in the module incorrect somewhere? Or is the ADC STM port faulty? Does anyone have the STM firmware?

Nobody is going to have the firmware for a customizable micro controller other then Alesis and Alesis will not give out that kind of stuff. I don't know how you connected your signal to the input (i.e. from a point on the PCB or using a standard instrument cable into the actual jack). If you didn't going through the jack I would suggest you clean the jack and make sure the jack itself isn't faulty. If that's good, my next question would be, are you using the correct power supply for the module? Believe it or not the module will do strange things if it doesn't have the correct power supply.

One last question, did you get the module like this?

BTW, welcome to the forum.

The power supply is correct, ~9 V 1.5 A.
Connected according to the service manual from dm8 (they are very similar) via an external jack.
Jack contacts are clean, the signal reaches the STM microcontroller.
I bought it second-hand and at first everything worked fine. A month later, 6 (HI HAT) stopped working. I opened the module and saw that some components (operational amplifiers) had already been changed earlier. I found the op-amp from my channel, it behaved strangely, I replaced it - and everything stopped working. I compare the signals that reach the STM microcontroller from working and faulty channels - and they are the same, but inputs 5,6,11,12 do not work.

That tells me that there is an on going issue. If I was to guess, the person before you at some point used the wrong power supply which over stressed the components and now components are weak and are failing over time. If you fix the issue you have, some other component will most likely fail in short order.

You would be better off just purchasing a different module. Unless you really like spending your time tracking down electronic issues and fixing them.

Sometimes it's even enjoyable ;). In any case, I'm not ready to give up so easily. 8)
Do you have module firmware versions different from the one on the DM10_Firmware_Updates_08052014 website?
It looks like this is a software bug? I installed a new STM32 controller and updated it ? nothing changed. It seems there's a bug somewhere, and the controller isn't reading data from this ADC channel.

I doubt very seriously that the firmware is faulty in that way. Could your firmware file be corrupted from where you downloaded it? Maybe, but the firmware itself being faulty (in the way you suggest) would mean every DM10 module with that firmware would not work. That firmware is from 2014 and there was no mass loss of module function reported by the users at the time (as it was very current at the time and many users updated their modules). So, like I stated unless your specific copy of the firmware corrupted I don't think it's the firmware.

BTW, No I don't have any different firmware.
