Huge Thanks to Chaser !
I just wanted to give a massive shout-out to Chaser for helping me track down the elusive `ld32-app-1.02.syx` firmware for the Alesis SR-18.
What a journey that was ? I?ve crawled through forgotten corners of the internet, dead links, Japanese ?Forbidden? pages, silent Wayback archives, and ghost forums from 2012.
I was this close to accepting that my poor SR-18 would forever live with firmware v1.00 ?
and then Chaser appeared, like the ?Ready? LED on my MIDI interface suddenly lighting up
Now the holy grail is in my hands. The firmware?s downloaded, safely backed up, and ready to breathe new life into my SR-18.
Seriously ? thank you, Chaser!
You didn?t just send a file ? you saved me hours of searching, headaches, and probably a couple of gray hairs.
My SR-18 is alive and kicking again, the groove is back, and yes ? now I can finally *mute that bass part properly.
Chaser, you?re a true hero of the SysEx age.
Respect and eternal gratitude from a very happy SR-18 owner ️
Happy to hear it..
The Older Hardware seems to last the test of time while Newer is definitely not as far as Quality goes..Manufacturing and it's location has changed.
I have a lot of Old MIDI gear Pre-USB that modern Tech (Editors,Interfaces etc etc) has allowed it for current use.
Your SR18 must have been in the Closet for years or you found a really old one as I believe all Manufactured after around 2012 had the Update...could be wrong and there is a warehouse full of them somewhere or as mentioned Closet Models that get on Craigslist..eBay..Reverb etc.
The SR16 has been around since 1990 and the SR18 2008/2009..the v1.02 update is dated 2008..
The
SR18 has been migrated to the New Alesisdrums site..
ALL Downloads/Links for past Documentation/Information/Updates etc etc... for the older Hardware..have been removed and are lost.
I have considered creating a page here for those that have been as all the info etc are rather small downloads.
There was also a little known Configuration File to setup the SR-18 for use with a Drum Module (2008).
The factory sounds, configuration, and settings remain in SR18 and are not damaged or lost when you load the custom configuration file.
You can delete the file and roll SR18 back to factory settings at any time.
I set a few up years and years ago with old Octapads for a Minimal Touring setup for Guitarist and E-drummer (Hotel/Motel etc)
It worked well for Duos in small clubs,Piano bar etc.
The SR18 has a Guitar/Instrument input..and you could use a Pedal for Program Changes for changing Kits.
I was going to setup a STRIKE Multipad as it also has Line Inputs and see what I could come up with.
I just never got around to picking up another SR18.I sold the SR18 I had nearly 10 years ago and I had already sampled the entire SR18 Sound base.

How To Use an SR18 Drum Machine As a Drum-Sound ModuleI looked for Videos Youtube etc etc for a Video Demo/Sound Reference...haven't found any.
I think the Topic was lost to time...
It was advertised for use with the USB Pro Kit (TriggerI/O 2007),..however the Sysx File provided sets up the SR18 for use with any Drum Module/TMI (Trigger MIDI Interface) , as long as you set the Modules MIDI Assignments (Map) to match.
The Mapping is (for the most part) GM except for the Tom Rims and the Cymbal Chokes.
The Chokes are Choke Notes..Not Aftertouch...so you won't be able to Choke with a Drum Module that doesn't have the same Choke Notes (typically "Fixed") unless you use a MIDI Filter (Example:live Performance Software like Gig Performer etc.) or hardware such as a
MIDI Solutions Event Processor.(which can also be used to setup Positional Sensing)
You could also use a Dual Zone Cymbal and assign the Edge to a Choke Note and adjust the Trigger settings as the switch is also used for the Choke and the Module Interprets the timing of the Pinch..
The Kits are placed in the User Section in the SR18.I don't know how many Kits there are.
I see the Roland SPD-SX listed under your equipment ..the Default MIDI is 60-72..Drum Machines..Multipads are/were mapped as an accessory to E-Drum Kit Modules...usually all in numerical order
The SR18 has different MIDI assignments per section..DRUM....PERC...BASS
SPD-SX: Default MIDI Note Number MapSPD-SX: Assigning MIDI Note Numbers to PadsI attached the zip file and a separate copy of the Instructions..just replace "TriggerI/O" with any Drum Module.
There are/is/were no special uploads for the Trigger I/O itself..you just mapped it and saved as a Kit.
