Alesis Nitro Max Cymbal Roll? Is it even possible?
(1/1)
Bear1978:
Hey all! I tried searching this forum, the search results were a miss, unless I just overlooked something.
I also tried Googling for the answer.
But I have an Alesis Nitro Max with two crash cymbals.
But, are there settings that can be adjusted on the module to enable me to do a cymbal roll that the crashes, starting softer/quieter then getting louder?
Right now when I try it just sounds like I am hitting the cymbals repeatedly at the same level over and over again.
Thanks in advanced for any info!

Welcome to the Forum !
The Nitro Lineup is an entry level module..single zone cymbals..Edge Articulation only for All Cymbals including the Ride.. Articulations are Amplitude based (Single Sample) which is not much for Dynamics...Not Multiple Samples..Multi-Velocity so you are not going to be able to do cymbal swells.
You are basically ramping the same sample up and down in volume and the Modules Algorithm determines the part of the sample to play.
Typically the Edge Zone for Cymbals is a switch that reads off a Piezo (Bow) for Velocity (If the Module has the Feature).
The Cymbals included with the Nitro Kits are Single Zone...Piezo , with the exception of 1 or 2 having a Choke. (Switch Zone w 7 Dots).
The best you can do is make sure the Sensitivity and Threshold are set properly..Lowest Sensitivity..Highest Threshold..otherwise a soft hit triggers a Maximum Hit...set the curve to Linear which for this Module is curve 1.
The most common mistake made is cranking up the sensitivity and lowering the Threshold which makes it easier to trigger but also then All Hits will sound as if it was a Maximum Velocity Hit.
