Strata Prime Drum Module Recording
« on: November 22, 2024, 05:45:07 PM »
Hello,

I upgraded from Strike module to the Strata Prime.  The Strike allows recording with audio input from your phone to play along with any audio such as drum-less tracks and record both together.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how it works on the Strata Prime.  It seems to record only one or the other.  Is this possible with the Strata prime or do you need a separate audio interface?  Thanks in advance.

Do you have the Module in JAM MODE (Previously Backing Track Mode)
It will depend on Firmware Version....
In one version it activates on the left edge of the screen...the other the right edge of the screen

JAM MODE FIRMWARE V1.10

Jam mode (also known as Backing Track mode) lets you record, play, save, and load audio files.
Use this mode to practice your drumming and play along to your favorite music, or record your performance.
To open Jam mode, press the Kit button and then tap Jam on the right edge of the screen

1. Headphone Monitoring
Select to monitor audio from the Aux In, Bluetooth In, or the Drums Mix.

2. Browse
Import .WAV, .AIFF, or .MP3 files from storage (SD/USB), or listen to previous
Recordings by tapping Browse.

3. Recording
Press the Record button to record audio here.

4. Kit Volume
Adjusts the overall drum kit volume using the Small Encoders

5. Track Volume
Adjusts the audio track?s playback volume using the Small Encoders.

BACKING TRACK MODE FIRMWARE v1.02

Backing Track Mode lets you record, play, save, and load audio files.
Use this mode to practice your drumming and play along to your favorite music, or record your performance.
To open Backing Track Mode, press the Kit button and then tap Backing Track on the left edge of the screen

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm using the Jam mode feature.  Unless I'm doing something wrong or there is an issue with my module.

I loaded a track from the SD card.  The track starts to play but stops when I hit the record button.

I can record music from my phone with the aux input but it doesn't record the drums with the track.  If I select drums mix it only records the drums.

I remember with the Strike module I had to change the output settings but I don't see anything in the mixer settings.
Are you able to record playing along with a track with the drums?  Thanks.

The strike module has an AUX + Internal setting for recording for the source.

You can not play and record to an SD Card simultaneously..

I see that recordings go into the Module however I also see/read that there is a lot of frustration as there is no way to export them..

I do not own one of these Modules so I don't have any way to do Hands On.research.

The one thing that I do notice.is some tricky wording...OR..not AND..

. Aux Inputs (1/4? TRS [6.35 mm])
Connect these inputs to an audio source (smartphone, mixer, etc.). Use these inputs to record to an audio track, sample a sound, or for use as a live play-along

JAM MODE
Use this mode to practice your drumming and play along to your favorite music, or record your performance.

The Knowledge base still hasn't been updated to reflect Backing Mode is Now Jam Mode..

Can I record and add my own samples?

Yes, the Prime Module features a Backing Track mode that will allow you to record audio using imported files, the aux input, or your own drumming.
Play along to your favorite songs, or record your own takes with this feature!

The strike module has an AUX + Internal setting for recording for the source.

I am quite Familiar with the STRIKE Module..
You are actually in Sample Mode when you record the Aux + Internal..and it's saved to the SD Card..
There isn't a Sample Mode for the Strata Modules.

I do see a possibility for some trickery ..if the Module will allow it..

When Importing Audio..it is turned into a Kit Piece..

I would see if you could import a Backing Track/Song etc and turn it into a Kit Piece.
..then when you hit that kit piece the song would start and play through.I would try a Cymbal as then you could choke it to stop it playing
It is a Kit Piece so would be included in the Performance.
The only downside would be you would lose a Kit Piece for playing unless you split a trigger and used a zone for starting songs loops etc.
Each time you hit the Kit Piece the Song would restart..however as mentioned before..I do not own one of these Modules so I don't have any way to test the Theory.
I also do not know if there is an audio size limit for Kit Pieces..it is not mentioned in the Manual...just the Sample and Bit rate.
The following file types are supported:
 .WAV, .MP3, and .AIFF files (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz sample rates that are 24, 16, or
8-bit)

I would use a MP3 file of the audio..it will be much smaller than a wav..if you don't have a DAW etc , Audacity works well for converting.

Also once recorded..there isn't a way to Export it..according to all the complaints I have seen/read

Hello again,

Thanks for all your input.  I might try the kit piece import trick?  I submitted a support ticket with Alesis.  They weren't much help.  They pointed to a link in the manual for Jam Mode.

When I connect my phone to Aux input and play a track it records only the track and when I select Aux in and it records only the drums when I select Drums mix.  Maybe its an output change in the mixer settings.  Thanks again.
