New member- alesis nitro kit with Studio One
(1/1)
OldDad:
Hey Everybody-
I tried to google my answers yesterday and I'm not even sure if I'm asking the right questions
So please bear with me..
I've recently gotten into MIDI, I used to only track audio.
I have some libraries I've been playing on my keyboard controller- having a great time.
I saw my kid's abandoned nitro kit and thought it'd be great to add this into the mix.
However I am having a tough time making it totally usable.
I'm running into two problems:
1) Some libraries play super short with no resonance or the notes may not even audibly trigger.
In some cases, I can just increase the Release on the VSTi and that solves it.
In all cases, the notes are getting recorded as played in the MIDI lanes, and if I extend the note lengths they play just fine.
The main trouble is not being able to hear it while performing.
I figure I can use a library that plays fine and perform with it and then change instrument,
but there might be some feel stuff missing from the performance on a different sounding kit or oddball percussion instrument.
I monitored the MIDI commands in StudioOne and see a "NOTEON velocity 0" that triggers after the note, which I understand is effectively NOTEOFF.
So I'm wondering is there a way to delay the "NOTEON velocity 0", or filter it in some way?
Or is there another approach to this?
2) Remapping- what is the preferred method for remapping?
I'm on windows, I downloaded Code42 Notemapper and will look at the manual when I have more brain power.
I saw something suggesting there is a way to make mapping templates in Studio One but haven't found details yet
But what do you guys like to do?
And is there anything special you need to consider when mapping a kit to a melodic instrument library?
Thanks!
