Alesis Tom L-Rod - Is there a longer version ?
« on: March 31, 2025, 12:21:35 AM »
Hi,

I find the L-Rods to be a bit short for the desired height of my toms.
The rack height is lifted as high as it'll go.
Is there a longer version of the Alesis L-Rod ?
I see the standard ones going for about $15. a piece, so I'd be hoping for a longer version to be around $20.
(I think my throne is at the correct height, but who knows :-)

There is a standard procedure for setting up the throne as it should be the first thing you do as the rest of the layout is based on it...it is different for everyone because everyone is different in size...There are a multitudes of websites offering instructions on how to properly setup. Here is one..

There isn't.. nor has there ever been ..extended L-Rods for E-Kits...you are probably the 1st to ask...They are not like Acoustic L-Rods where you can purchase a variety of styles /sizes...std Acoustic L-Rods are also larger in Diameter typically 12.7mm..(TAMA 10.5mm)
The Alesis use a 3/4" diameter for the clamp , same diameter as the 3/4 Cymbal arms..All are approx 6.75"x 3.5" and various as far as knurled..Hex etc.Roland and others are not compatible as they are larger diameter 10.5mm..Alesis uses the small.9.5mm
The Strike Kit L-Rods 6.75" x 6.75"...longer at the clamp so you can center the weight over the Crossbar etc...as the shells are much larger and deeper at 3.5" with center mount while majority of the Alesis shells are much shallower and the mount is off-center towards the bottom or on the bottom.

I don't know which rack you have as your posts list multiple Kits..Surge..DM10 MKII Pro etc.
Those racks are the same..Front uprights are around the standard approx 31-1/2.
The Nitro rack is the one that is shorter than the standard.
If you have the L-Rods behind the Crossbar and Toms angled it will be lower than if the L-Rod is Mounted in front of the Crossbar and the Toms angled over the Bar.

Otherwise..If you want the Toms to sit higher add T-Legs to lift the rack or purchase longer/taller uprights...the issue may be if it's an older style Alesis rack the uprights may be pinned for the cymbal holder which is usually for 7/8" diameter cymbals arms. This style was discontinued. The Newer Kits the cymbals all clamp onto the crossbar.
