Author Topic: same midi note on different midi channel to different kit piece BFD  (Read 204 times)

Hi Everyone,

does anyone know if it is possible to use same midi note on different midi channel to different kit pieces in BFD? google AI suggestes it is possible, but i could not find the option it describes to set midi channel per specific drum.  i checked BFD3 manual but it didnt help. i can get BFD to respond only on specific channel with the kep map by locking the key map to a set channel, but then it ignores the same note if i send it on another channel. when i use 'omni' it does not care about the channel, even if i 'learnt' using channel 10, same note sent on channel 1 will trigger the kit piece i learnt sending on chan 10.

see below from Google AI. would love this to be true, the example it gives at the end is exactly what i want to do, but starting to doubt it can be done, atleast not without running two instances of BFD3 and setting each to listen on specific channels  :-[

Yes, in BFD (BFD Player or BFD3), you can assign the same MIDI note to different kit pieces by setting them to different MIDI channels, allowing you to trigger a specific drum sound on a different kit piece depending on which MIDI channel it's sent on; essentially, you can "learn" the same MIDI note to different drum elements by changing the MIDI channel for each kit piece within your DAW settings.
Key points to remember:

    MIDI Channels:
Each MIDI channel acts as a separate "lane" for sending MIDI data, allowing you to control different instruments with the same note on different channels.

Keymap settings in BFD:
Access the keymap settings within BFD to define which MIDI note corresponds to which drum within your kit, and specify which MIDI channel you want to use for each drum.

How to do it:

Select your drum kit piece: In BFD, choose the specific drum you want to assign a MIDI note to.

Access the keymap: Go to the "Keymap" section within BFD's settings.
Set the MIDI note and channel: Select the MIDI note you want to use and choose the desired MIDI channel for that specific drum.
Repeat for other drums: Follow the same process to assign different MIDI channels to other drums within your kit, even if you use the same MIDI note for each drum.

Example:

You could set MIDI note C3 on channel 1 to trigger the bass drum, and MIDI note C3 on channel 2 to trigger the snare drum.

My reason for wanting to do this, is that i have a second DM10 Module i am expanding with, i tried changing the midi notes at kit level, and that works apart from crash / ride / high hat, as these kit pieces / notes seem to be locked and cant be changed like the other triggers, and i have a second 3 zone ride i want to add

Thanks
