Hi, I searched the forum and can't find anything about this. I didn't think I could be the only one with this issue. I am not an experienced drummer by any means (I am actually a guitar player with a decent e-kit) - and this may be an easy fix. I have an Alexis Strike Pro with the raised kick pad. I have attached a Tama Double Iron Cobra kick drum pedal. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set up the kick pad so it doesn't wobble. It is moving so much it is causing double strikes. Can anyone point me in the direction of fixing this?
Also, the Iron Cobra pedals feel extremely loose - especially in the rebound. For instance, when I am raising my foot, the pedal is coming up slower than my foot. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the Forum !
The Kick setup is basically a 3 point stance.
It is going to be affected by the surface it is set up on.
A concrete or wood floor with a drum rug is much more consistent /stable than carpet and padding.
Carpet/padding is going to have some wobble and depending on thickness may not allow the spurs to go deep enough to prevent movement.
Movement and wobble can also come from inexperience and stomping the pedal instead of being balanced and fluid on the pedal.
Setup on a hard flat surface first..level out the Kick Tower.. clamp on the pedal and make any additional leveling adjustments as a unit until you have a stable base..setup the pedal...then move to carpet and make final adjustment for the spurs etc and pedal tuning.
Double Kick Pedal adjustments (Beater angle/timing..Pedal height..Tension..weight placement etc) is personal preference and also based on style and technique Heel up..Heel Down etc...if you haven't played/practiced long enough to develop a style or try different techniques.. it's going to be trial and error until you find your playing style and Tune the pedal to you, that's half the battle..then the rest of the settings will be in the module for sensitivity, threshold and re-trigger etc. Some even adjust the head tension..if it's too tight you'll have a lot of bounce and experience double hits etc
As for the pedal..and it being "Loose" the 1st adjustment everyone makes or suggests is probably the spring tension.
When setting up a pedal..Spring Tension is last and you tighten or loosen until the action that you need is correct based on your foot angle which is based on how far away you sit from the pedals..Some like it tight..some loose..depends on the feel you want so if you are happy overall with the pedal you can adjust the tension.
There is actually an order to setting up a pedal as there are settings that affect the other , so doing one out of order will ruin the other setting..which some may spend hours on playing then make an adjustment and throw it all out of wack..
Beater Height
Foot board angle
Beater Angle
Spring tension (calibrate both springs)
Rather than try to explain in writing I searched around and actually found a recent Video with someone who understands there is an order and uses a phone app for helping..a simple inclinometer. The one used in the Video is from
Google Play..
