Alesis Surge Mesh 10" Snare Trigger Red Wire
« on: February 13, 2025, 05:36:23 PM »
Hi everyone,

First time poster here, if I do something wrong please lmk. I bought an Alesis Surge Mesh kit back in 2021, and I've been playing 2-3 hours a day for several years with no issues, but one of my pads broke today and the warranty is 100% expired at this point so I can't just get a replacement.

The problem:  My 10" dual zone snare pad broke today. I opened it up and the red/black wire is snapped. There is a tiny bit of wire sticking out from under the foam pad in the centre trigger piece.

Question 1:  Can anyone please tell me what the part in the centre is called, and how I can find a replacement? Is it the trigger? Is it the piezo (or are the piezos those little pressure sensor things in the corners?) I'm going to try and splice the wires back together but if this doesn't work I'd prefer to just replace the whole trigger, because sending it to a repair shop could take 3 weeks or potentially even longer.

Question 2:  What kind of wire would I need to fix this 10" snare head? If there isn't enough wire left to attach it well, could I add in a length of the same type of wire into the splice and extend it a little bit? Would I need to replace the whole length of wire that runs b/w the trigger and the PCB jack? Is it going to work the same if I add a patch to connect the two broken sections and then wrap the whole thing in shrink tubing?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Forum !

A pic would have been helpful as the interior trigger design has changed multiple times over the past few years with models and trigger designs being discontinued and you have named (2) Kit Models..Nitro Mesh..and Surge Mesh. Each has a different Trigger design.
The Head Piezo (Center) has had the wires severed...typically from the plastic plate rubbing against it and cutting it.
Piezos are cheap and available everywhere these days..Amazon..ebay etc etc.
There are many Piezo repair Topics and Youtube Videos for nearly each trigger design..some require more patience and experience than others to not destroy other components during the process.
The replacement procedure will be similar to the one in this Topic other than it also uses the sensitivity Knob while the Surge Triggers the wiring went straight from the Piezo to the Jack.
You will need to determine which Model Snare you have ..Nitro or Surge.
