How is the Alesis Strata Prime actually?

Hi everyone, I've been playing an acoustic kit for almost 2 years but the place I've been playing at is closing down, so I'm starting to leaning towards an electronic kit, but only if the feel and sound matched as close as money can buy the acoustic ones. My drum teacher suggested me buying a Roland TD50KV or TD50KV2, which I'll admit they sound absolutely amazing, but they're a bit too expensive and I cannot find used ones around the area.

While gathering around informations about edrums I came across the Alesis Strata Prime multiple times, and by watching videos of people playing it it sounds solid, but I got a bit skeptic due to the price (basically half the Roland ones, but I understand there must be a difference in quality) and due to the amount of publicity they are having. A lot of YouTube channels started covering it (probably because Alesis send them the kit themselves for a review) but all I hear is positive stuff, and it seems a little disingenuous.

What are your experiences with this kit? Is it worth the price? What are some cons that an acoustic drum player may find aggravating?

Welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing you have never sat down behind an edrum kit before. If you can, I would suggest you visit a Guitar Center (or other music store) that has a few edrum kits set-up to play. Just a word of warning, cheap e-kits are just that cheap (meaning sub $500.00). You will not have a good experience playing on these super cheap kits (unless you are an absolute beginner drummer).

With that stated, I personally do not have experience with the Strata Prime specifically, but I have many years/decades on edrums and the best advice I can give you is, Try before you buy (if you can). This is true for all brands of edrums.

The biggest "con" that acoustic drummers find aggravating when first going to edrums is the hi-hats. Recreating the hi-hats in electronics is very difficult and I've found that the more expensive an ekit is, the better the hi-hats. Roland does have the best hi-hats in the industry, but Alesis is a close second if you are using the Strata Prime kit.

The video links below are to a very reputable edrum guy on youtube and is pretty much a straight shooter when it comes to something being good or not:
