Welcome Ed.
I did exactly this about 5-6 years ago.
I initially bought a DM6 then bought a DM10 module and cable snake.
I swapped out all the single zone pads for all dual zone pads.
I then bought new dual zone cymbals with chokes and added the triple zone ride cymbal.
I did remove the original DM6 kick pad and added 2 Yamaha KP 65 kick pads with a set of Pearl Demon Drive pedals.
Be careful because this has led me down the rabbit hole of constantly adding to my set up.
My current set up is 1 snare, 2 ride toms, 2 floor toms, (all dual zone), 2 chokable crashes, 1 triple zone ride and a 4th. chokable cymbal that I presently have set up as a splash but I change this to whatever I want.
I also added a Strike multipad mounted above the ride toms and an Alesis Sample Pad mounted below the ride toms. I then added a Yamaha DTXM12 multipad as a side board next to the floor toms.
I added an Alesis "realhat" pedal for the hi-hats which gives you variable hat levels instead of the DMhat pedal which came with the DM6 which is only open or closed. I use it for one of the multipads.
I added 2 more KP65 kick towers and a set of Trick BigFoot pedals for the multipad bass pads.
I added 1 more kick tower made out of a spare DM6 pad for the strike multipad that I have a "Drumnetics" magnetic pedal mounted on. This gives me 5 bass drums.
All of this is routed through a Behringher 24 channel mixer which I also have an effects processor routed through the boards Aux1 sends/returns to give me various effects such as flanger/phaser/reverbs etc.
On the main inserts to the mixer I have a 64 channel mastering EQ which allows me to tailor the sound out of the board.
Oh yeah, I also wash the DM 10 through Superior Drummer 3 which adds a whole new level of tweakability.
The mixer is routed out to an Alesis Transactive 400 drum amp but I mainly only use headphones.
Like I said, be careful that you don't fall down the rabbit hole like I did.
Enjoy your new DM10.
