Strike Pro SE Sound Issue - Tom 1 Volume too low
« on: November 26, 2023, 05:31:53 PM »
Hey all,

Brand new to Electronic Drumming, but a long time drummer.  I've been playing on my acoustic kit since 1985, and just took the plunge and upgraded to an Alesis Strike Pro SE just before Thanksgiving.

When all the volume sliders are at max, I don't hear much of a difference with the volume between the toms, however, when I move all 4 to half way, tom 1 is WAY quieter than the other three, which seem to be at about the same volume.  This doesn't change no matter which kit I am using, so it's an across the board issue.

I've tried the following:
-  swapping the cable.  Plugged the Tom 1 cable into the Tom 2 drum, and get the same behavior, and swapped to a completely different 1/4" cable.
- Factory Reset
- Updating Firmware (it was already at the 1.5 release, but I thought what the heck).
- I opened an Alesis support ticket, but haven't gotten a response.  (I'll chalk that up to the long holiday weekend).

All of these have done nothing at all, I get the same exact behavior.  Is there anything else I can do?  Or should I take the "brain" to where I got the kit (bought the extended warranty/coverage) and swap it out?  This last one is a last resort for me.

Thanks for any help.

By way of documenting, this is the response I got rom my Alesis ticket.

Thanks for reaching out, I've run into this before. 2 tests to do:

1. take the Tom 2 cable and use it in the tom 1 drum AND the tom 1 port. If it's working the same, we need to adjust a few things to the drum/settings.

2. if it isn't, let me know and let's talk replacement cables.

Now, the things we're going to want to adjust are the actual tuning first- The head on this tunes like a regular acoustic drum(X shape pattern, etc.), but has to be tightened until you cannot press your thumb into the center with a moderate amount of force. The head on these drums are 2 ply heads, so if one gets loose enough, the heads will touch each other and dampen every hit. This is VERY common, the first time I used my kit I hadn't tuned the heads in the first 3 months and every tom seemed like it was going 1 by 1 until I realized this.

If that hasn't solved the issue, go into Trigger Settings, then turn on Note Chase and hit tom 1. Afterwards, turn down the threshold to about 5 or 10, and turn up the pad curve to EXP 2. That should get a decent amount more volume out of the drum.

I am new to the forum and have been reading through posts.  I just read your post.

Did the reply from Alesis solve the problem?

Also, it doesn't sound like they addressed the issue that all the toms were same volume with the sliders at full volume, but the 1 tom was quieter with all the sliders at a mid setting.
