As mentioned in the Lobby, my 10yr old grandson is loving his new Nitro Max kit. But his parents have one quibble ? the noise from the physical action of the kick drum pedal echoing into the room below where he?s practising?
He?s not stamping the pedal, and we have a layer of (1) carpet and (2) dense foam under the pedal, but it still sounds loud in the room below.
We?ve noticed that the hi-hat pedal?s action is much quieter. So could I simply get another hi-hat pedal and plug that into the kick drum's input lead ?
I?m very non-techie, but have read something about the hi-hat pedal having two trigger points depending on how far you press the pedal. Could this youngster simply press through to the maximum extent to get an acceptable kick-drum sound ?
( I?ll let him sneak back onto the correct kick pedal when his folks are out shopping !)
Any wisdom much appreciated.
Welcome to the Forum !!..
The acoustic noise from the pedal has been troublesome for apartments..upstairs/down stairs/basement etc since the beginning of E-drum Kits
The Vibration are transferring into the floor..even tapping in stocking feet produces a thump below.
There have been numerous attempts at resolving it over the years including DIY Tennis Ball risers etc.
You could try a different pedal setup but it has to be a Piezo type..Not Switch or Hi Hat pedals.
Roland has a few "Lower Noise" Kick pedals..
KT-9..
KT-10 ...some of the Kit pieces/hardware prices are kind of high compared to the prices of a complete entry level kit.It is that time of the year for deals..
You can also take a look at the New
Roland VQD106 Quiet Design Kit for some ideas of how they went about reducing acoustic noise..according to Roland ..reduced by 75%...basically mini ball risers to get the pedal up off the floor.
