Bass drum replacement for Turbo Mesh?
« on: April 27, 2021, 03:17:25 AM »
Hi,
I would like to replace the stock kick drum pedal with one with a beater, for a more realistic feel. Which pedal+mesh pad I need to buy? It must be compatible with Turbo Mesh kit.
Would this allow me to have some dynamics in the kick drum? My current pedal doesn't, kick drum volume is fixed.
Thanks.

The DD401/DEBUT/DM LITE/E-DRUM TOTAL/TURBO Kick input is not compatibile with anything other than the included switch type pedal and fixed velocity..the module doesn't have the ability to change trigger types and/or use a Piezo/drum and pedal setup

I followed another member's path and "modded" my Turbo Mesh kit, without actually modding anything.
Here's what I've done:
1) I bought a bass drum pedal, which is an Iron Cobra 200.
2) I took the original floor tom (last drum on the right, mounted on the left "arm") and used it as a bass drum. I just moved the entire "arm" toward the inside, mounted the drum's support backwards and adjusted from there like it was a regular acoustic bass drum.
3) I used the second tom as a a floor tom. I moved the drum to the very right side in order to mach the position of the drum we used as a bass drum and adjusted from there. Then I used MIDI mapping to assign the correct sound to the drum.
4) I moved the Ride cymbal between the tom and the rack tom and mounted its support backwards to properly adjust its height and angle.
5) I used the original Alesis bass drum pedal as second bass drum.

Keep in mind with a rack mounted kick drum the vibrations will amplified throughout the rack and you may encounter crosstalk which this module doesn't have any settings to counter it...also I see in the pics you are using the felt side of the beater which is the number #1 No No as the friction from the felt and the mesh will either fuse or cause the head to wear out prematurely and reduce it's life.

Thanks for your reply.
No crosstalk problems, luckily. About the felt, thanks a lot. I'll flip the beater asap.
