ROLAND TD716

Flagship V-Drums 7 Series Kit with the Expandable V71 Module and Advanced Pads

The V-Drums 7 Series opens a dynamic new chapter in the V-Drums legacy, elevating the world?s leading electronic drums with a reimagined sound module, next-generation pads, and enhanced creative tools. Our latest flagship platform gives you two ways to play: a core onboard sound library created in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW) and DW Soundworks software for computer-based drumming. And with built-in wireless connectivity and Roland Cloud Connect on your smartphone, you can instantly change up your sound with a growing library of V-Drums Instrument Expansions, Kit Packs, and more.

The Flagship TD716 delivers the full expressive power of the V-Drums 7 Series in a modern electronic kit with the expandable V71 module and our latest pads. The PD-14DSX takes our digital snare technology to the next level with even more detailed sensing, a snare throw-off lever, and a snare tension knob. The KD-18-BK kick offers acoustic looks and playability with a full-depth wood shell and an innovative drumhead-mounted sensor. A four-piece tom array includes the PD-10X and PD-12X pads, which feature streamlined profiles and new sensor systems. Rounding out this powerhouse kit are our acclaimed digital hi-hat and ride pads, two 16-inch V-Cymbals, and the MDS-STG2 stand.

A new four-way sensor system eliminates hot spots and independently detects rim and head hits.

Digital 14" snare pad with advanced sensors and a traditional throw-off lever.

The Roland PD-14DSX is a 14" digital snare pad designed to bring an unparalleled playing experience to the world of electronic drumming. Paired with the flagship V71 sound module, the PD-14DSX offers ultra-detailed positional sensing, over 16,000 velocity variations, and automatic hand detection for seamless transitions between playing techniques. With its high-resolution sensor system and advanced digital communication, the PD-14DSX accurately captures every nuance of your playing, from the hardest hits to the softest articulations.

Advanced Snare Design With Throw-Off Lever
The PD-14DSX is built with multiple sensors for high-resolution triggering, offering precise positional sensing and hand detection. This allows for smooth transitions between headshots, rimshots, and cross-stick techniques. The snare pad also includes a traditional throw-off lever to turn the virtual snares on or off, complete with an LED indicator synced to the module. The strainer knob allows you to adjust the snare tension with ease, while the triple-flange hoop and rubber rim provide an authentic acoustic feel.

Ultimate Control and Natural Feel
Featuring a three-ply mesh head, the PD-14DSX delivers natural rebound and realistic playing feel. The pad works best with the V71 module but is also compatible with the TD-50X and TD-27, offering some support for advanced features. The knurled strainer knob doubles as a controller for assignable functions within the module, offering additional control over your sound.

Explore the rich features of the reimagined V71 module, the centerpiece of every V-Drums 7 Series kit.

The V71 is the deepest and most advanced sound module we?ve ever produced. The famous hands-on V-Drums workflow remains, but everything else has been overhauled, rebuilt, and refreshed. Ultra-powerful DSP and greatly expanded waveform memory unlock a universe of creative expression never before possible. Preset changes, sound edits, and mix adjustments are smoother and faster than ever, thanks to the vivid color display, updated workflow features, tactile controls, and ergonomic panel layout.

Add your own sounds.

Sometimes, you need specific sounds to support an artist on tour. Or maybe you rely on a personal sample collection to reinforce your acoustic drums in studio productions. The module?s sample import function makes it easy to customize your palette and build any sound you can imagine. Each pad assignment provides three layers that can include any combination of internal sounds or external samples.

Go even deeper with the V71 Editor.

V-Drums users have long requested a software-based editor, and now it?s here. Available as a free download on Roland Cloud, the V71 Editor extends your editing workflow with a large computer screen and mouse control. It works seamlessly with the onboard V-Edit tools, and your instrument changes are instantly reflected in both the module and editor software.

Wireless freedom.

The V71 features a built-in Roland wireless adapter that links with your network, letting you access sound content directly via the Roland Cloud Connect app on a mobile device. Bluetooth audio/MIDI is also available, allowing you to jam with songs on your phone, play along with video lessons, wirelessly record MIDI in music software, and more.

All the connections you need.

The V71 rear panel offers balanced outputs for professional audio connections, including XLR and 1/4-inch stereo main outputs and eight 1/4-inch direct outputs. Three high-speed trigger inputs support our advanced digital pads, while 14 analog trigger inputs offer full compatibility with standard V-Pads. There?s also a stereo mix input?perfect for blending in an external instrument such as an SPD series percussion pad?plus an assignable footswitch jack and an SD card slot for data backup, sample import, audio file playback, and recording.

Multi-channel audio and MIDI.

Use the module?s integrated USB audio/MIDI interface to communicate with DW Soundworks, the V71 Editor, and other music software. And capture up to 32 audio channels in your DAW over a single cable. Traditional MIDI I/O is also available to connect with all types of MIDI hardware.

I'm impressed!

I see this configuration being the sweet spot for this new series of Roland kits. I know most will drool over the VAD set-up, but I like the electronic drum look better (it's more flexible as well, if people can get past the "It need to be a perfect acoustic experience!"). I'm really not interested in perfect acoustic looking emulation.

And Roland is now doing the whole samples thing now. I guess people don't want COSM anymore?

Two thumbs up from what I've seen so far.  :)

Looks to be $8000.00 (guitarcenter.com) for this version. That's a lot of money, but it does have the Roland name on it. As long as it has the Roland quality I think this might be worth it for those that can afford it. Personally I think Alesis hit the sweet spot with pricing for the Strata at $3500.00. It too is a lot but, it is more approachable when you are under 4K for a higher end kit. $8000.00 is a super premium level price.  ;D

I don't know what the New Sound Engine Name is..the older versions were...COSM..SUPERNATURAL...PRISMATIC.

Appears the V71 Module is using DWSoundworks, an Editor ..and Roland Cloud for the Downloads.

The Editor is Hardware Dependent.

My ROLAND Connect Account on iOS shows iOS setup and support for the V71 Module..along with Expansions specifically for the V71.
Maybe later there will be an iOS version of the Editor..
