SR18 Count-In When Recording?
« on: August 18, 2024, 06:08:48 PM »
Hello, I just got a new SR18 Drum machine, and I can create my own patterns and drum kits ok.

The problem is that when I go to record the Bass part, using the internal Bass sounds, it's very hard to get the first note exactly on the first beat of the bar.
I checked out the Step Edit function, BUT the first note still won't "shift" to the desired spot eg; on Bar 1 Beat 000, and I also can't delete that note. After each attempt I do the Save process, but it reverts to the state it was before trying the Step Edit.

Is there some way to have a Count-In when recording (either Drums/Percussion/or Bass). In a DAW there's alway a Count-In function, but I can't see one in the SR18.
All help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum !

Check these Video Tutorials and see if they help you out.

They are more recent and more intuitive than anything at the time when I had a SR-18 then eventually sold ... over 10 years ago.

Thanks for the links.
I'd seen this guy's videos before, and although he's very good at explaining things, it still doesn't address the issue of a Pre-Record Count-In.
I tend to write my own patterns, with an entire verse as 1 long pattern, instead of using the A/B/Fill setup...it's just how I like to work.
After erasing the bum note (Bar-1/Beat-1) in Step Edit, I have to put the machine into Record mode, let it play through the 16 Bar Verse, and when it cycles back to the start of that Vrs Pattern, Bar-1, Beat-1, I play in that first note which was out of sync.
I hope you get what I mean. It's a work around, but very time consuming and tedious. I can't understand why there is no count-in for recording.
Most of the time I play the Bass part into SR18 from my MidiKeyboard, instead of on the pads. It appears that when in Step Edit mode, I can't change the individual Note Length either, which is a bit of a bummer.

Any further suggestions welcome...Thanks
