Welcome to the Forum !

Are you wanting to use the DM8 as a MIDI Controller and trigger/record the samples on the SP-404MK2..or send Audio from the DM8 to the SP-404MK2 and use the SP-404MK2 as an audio interface?

The DM8 doesn't have a 5 PIN MIDI Out..only USB..however the SP-404 has 2 types of MIDI Input..the small 3.5mm..and USB C.
There is a USB B to USB C cable available...so you should be able to send MIDI from the DM8 USB B to the SP-404MK2 USB C.
The DM8 is Class Compliant/USB1.1 so the shorter the USB Cable the better..going over 10' is not recommended as MIDI will time out.

For Audio in the SP-404MK2 has 2 (L&R) 1/4 (6.35mm) Line inputs...so it's just connecting the DM8 outputs to the SP-404MK2 1/4 (6.35mm) Inputs

The External IN on the SP-404MK2 is sent to USB Audio OUT also..

The Actual Recording of tracks etc you'll have to refer to the manual as I am not familiar with using it as a DAW/Sampler so you will need to refer to the Roland Manual and the Roland Knowledge Base.
