Alesis Strike Multipad Freezing Up
« on: May 07, 2024, 10:19:33 PM »
Does anyone have a remedy for Alesis Strike Multipad freezing up when turning it on?

I have ruled out power supply having a short, tried copying and replacing the startup SD card and replacing the primary board.  Alesis has no suggestions other than order another particular board in the unit (that is on backorder with no release date) that might resolve the issue.  My unit has been sitting at an Alesis 3rd party repair shop and they suggest buying a new unit at this point.

For anyone considering buying an Alesis product, do know their technical support is very poor.

I presume v1.3..
Have you tested start up and navigation without the SD Card in place?
Are you copying over a copy of the orignal SD Card contents and File sytem ..or the last version one you ended with when the issue occured , including user wave files etc etc.

The SD Card holds the File system seperate from the Firmware..you should be able to navigate thoughout everything just all menu's etc will be "empty" and you can't save.

If you make a copy of the wav folder (backup)..and remove all of the user wavs (One of the "Sort" list or a wav file may have become corrupted)..The SMP converts to numbered wav files but retains the name in the lists.I can supply you up with everything to rebuild a factory SD Card..except the "DATA" Folder in the Main WAV Folder..those are copyrighted wav files so I will not distribute them.I don't know how many wav's you have added. You'll need to to through the Folders and delete "Numbered" wav files. The SMP starts with Folder 80..Folders 000-79 hold 100 wav's each (except 000 = 99..no idea why)
Folder 80 has 40 and the 1st imported to..there are no Folders 81-125..those are created as User Wavs are added.
You will then have a Fresh System to start over.
I have a few SMP..2 are heavily modified so I don't have to deal with the corruption problem anymore and just pop in a Fresh SD Card.
The others...1 lost communication with the SD Card and works as a MIDI Controller but can't save settings etc.
Another was NIB I had for a year and "white screened" when I did the update and hasn't started up since..of course it was out of warranty.
The Main Boards are like typical MOBO's with the CPU..RAM..SD Card as the drive etc aren't cheap (around $300.00 US) so about 60% the cost of a new SMP ($499.99)and usually on back order so I elected not to fix them and use for other projects.
