That pic slideshow was exactly what I was looking for. How do you feel about the bass drum conversion? I've noticed that seems to be a sticking point for some people...I'm kinda thinking about 3 options.

1) 682 conversion, hope it works.
2) Roland KD-80 or KD-85. Just buy a mesh head one...
3) Krigg Trigga...it looks like it's triggered by the foot pedal coming down instead of the beater. Apparently very quiet, but you have to get used to it.

Any thoughts? Insight? :D
Cool! I hoped it would help someone. My kick is super-sensitive. I get some ghost hits because I have a heavy foot that may end up having the mallet lightly bounce off the head. It would be awesome if the head was a bit more dead but I have been able to get it to work. The guys in my band like the quieter kit because we focus on keeping our overall sound down and the places we play have also really liked that we don't blow their eardrums in.

I spoke with Drum-Tec.  They can't ship to the US.  What I'm curious about is how all they do is remove the head, place some foam, but on the new mesh head and it's done.  What is the difference in their method and the one described here with all the cutting of foam, etc.  thanks!

If I use the 682 conversion kit - do I need to use their mesh heads afterward if they wear out? Or could I just use Roland or some other brand?

You can use any mesh head. :)

I read this topic with much interest. My question is, add foam and mesh head or cone and mesh head?  Pros and cons of each.

Can you please add pictures?  Also I'm not sure if I read over it, but did you use the cones?  I know you bought the 682 Mesh Heads but I wasn't sure if you actually used their cones.

Thanks!

You did it with the cones, though.

Does anyone know if maltesefalcon used cones in his conversion?  Also, does the piezo plate face up, or down?

He didn't use cones, and the plate faces down.
