Surge Mesh Kit and choke option in midi mode
« on: September 15, 2018, 11:55:30 AM »
Hello,
I'm new in this forum because I've just bought a Surger Mesh Kit.
I would like to use my Surge with another sound module, more exactly, my Roland Integra 7.
So I have connected via USB to my computer, in CUBASE, I have selected SURGE in midi in and Integra7 in MIDI OUT into the channel 10.

I can play the Integra7 sound.

But, I cannot have the CHOKE option.

In fact, the CHOKE not send midi events when I activate it.

Is it normal ?

If you could help me to find the solution, it'll be noce.

Thanks a lot for your help !

More informations :

I've filtered with MidiOx the events sent by Alesis Surge Module, in Midi mode (usb or 5 pins DIN) and for the CHOKE, it sends a Key Aftertouch (or Poly aftertouch or Poly pressure).
I've seen that my Integra 7 Midi LED lights (so, it receives the midi message) but it don't stop the sound to execute the choke.

I continue to search why it sends message but without no effect !

Hi Musella,

It sounds like you need to tell the Integra to interpret the aftertouch message to either trigger a choke sound, or to do something to the already playing sound to cut it off (like pull the TVA or TVF level down to zero, maybe?)

I'm not sure if you can do that directly on the Integra, or if you'd need a MIDI translator programme running between the Alesis module and the Roland synth.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks a lot for the answer.

I'm going to test your solution for TVA or TVF because Aftertouch is already activated.
I think it's possible in MFX parameters !

I take you informed if is ok !

Have a nice afternoon,

Let me know how it goes.

If you can't get it to work in real time, you could always record a performance as MIDI and then find all the afterouch messages and exchange them for note on messages for the choke sound.

Hi,

With TVF and TVA I cannot tweak them to have the Choke effect.

I have downloaded EzDrummer in trial mode  to test. What I have :

On the first stike on a dual zone cymbal, I have the long sound... when I choke the cymbal, the sound stop BUT, on the second strike I have only the choke sound.

And it's true for the 2 dual zone cymbals !

I have to compare the results to try to discover why  !!!

Thanks a lot for your help !
