Vic Firth SIH1 headphones produce distorted sound
« on: March 18, 2015, 02:09:26 PM »
Hi all,

I recently purchased a set of Vic Firth SIH1 headphones to go with my Alesis DM10X mesh kit. The problem that I have with this setup is that any bass rich sound seems to distort my headphones. This means starting from the second tom through the standing toms to the bass drum sound really bad. Lowering the volume does not really help (I never even have the volume way up), a non workable volume will project the sound without issues, but this is as mentioned unworkable. Other sound sources are no problem. Sound from my Macbook is delivered fine. Also when using Addictive Drums 2 there seems to be no problem. Other headphones like my old Sennheiser HD520 II do not suffer from this strange behaviour. What could be the case here?

Thanks!
Bob

Try to use different headphones - your headphones are probably a bad match for the Dm10 module - could be due to the low impedance of 32 and the construction.

Thanks for your quick reply! What isolated headphones would be a good match? And... does anybody have the same experience with this hardware combination? Or are there cases known where there are no issues with this combination of equipment?

i have the same headphones. i'm not real impressed. they sound like a wet fart when anything other than a cymbal or snare goes through em.

just a shot in the dark, but I have sound isolating headphones and when I power the isolation option on, if my batteries are getting low, then I start to get nasty sounds and cut outs especially at the bottom or high ends, kick, crash or loud whacks on the snare or floor toms will do it.. if I play soft all is well for a while, until the batteries really go then it just dies.. does your set have an option for non-isolation and do you get the same result?

It's probably because the headphones are may not be compatible with the DM10 module.

The SIH1 reduces overall noise levels by 24 decibels and features high quality stereo headphones.
