Upgrading your DM10 kit with a Drumit3 module?
« on: April 20, 2015, 11:18:32 PM »
The recently announced 2box Drumit3 module could be a cost-effective option to expand a DM10 mesh kit (if it allows up to 32GB of VST sample storage).
Early reports from Musikmesse and other forums (2box & vdrums) suggest it's a reduced version of the flagship Drumit5 module with most of its key functions included. It's currently at prototype stage and should be available "late summer".

That would be absolutely an upgrade with one catch. The 2box module doesn't work with Roland/Alesis Hi-hats. I believe that there is a mod you can do to make the hi-hats work. I would google this.

Yeah there's a small hihat conversion kit available that can be fitted under a standard hihat pedal or Roland FD7/8 pedal as shown here: http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,1890.0.html

Another option is a new 2box hihat pedal unit demoed with the Drumit3 kit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItuZwBjtIts

This is interesting.

I have a 2box Drummit5. And i say that i never used a VST ever since i got the thing.

The hi-hat thing it is easely doable. 2Box sells circuit boards and magnets as low as 20€, so that you can mod your cymbals. I have modded mine and it works like a charm.

This is an awesome unit. The cymbals work like 3 zones and are dual zone (they have the piezo on the bell, and calculate the distance between the edge swich and the piezo, like posicional sensing), therefore, you have a usefull bell, bow and edge on your hat.

I am quite happy ever since i got mine. It behaves 90% like an acoustic drum. :D

Sharkuel, you may be aware of the SDSE and DrumIt Manager software to help convert VST instruments to 2box format and also assemble kits. Here's some info about them: http://lustark.com/sdse  http://lustark.com/drumit-manager

They're well supported on the 2box forum by the developer (Lustar) with any improvements and updates: http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,1544.0.html

Yes i am fully aware of that, and the 32GB mod as well. I have the whole BFD3 library on my 2Box Brain. No need for laptops or PC's to run high qualitty samples with absolute NO latency ;)

That software is so freakin awesome <3 Having a hi-hat with 128 samples between open and close is mind bogging!

It's interesting that 2box have waited 2 years to finally release their Drumit-3 module/kit at Musikmesse.

2box made a clever choice demoing the DrumIt-3 module with Alesis (Crimson), Drum-tec & Yamaha hardware at Musikmesse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaU3XiTLPQY (demos from 2:20)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkQO_UL5J_U

Alesis may be concerned that their new DM10 Mk-II kit (@ $1099) should make a reliable combo option with the DrumIt-3 (@$870) allowing up to 32GB of fast access SD memory for many edrum VST instruments likely including SSD5. So the Alesis decision to preview Strike kits early at NAMM-16 appears to be a major stuff-up.

its 4GB inside, (32gb is a hack you need to made with a mod and (you void the warranty) , the draw back with 2box, there is no much editing, no individual eq, no reverb, tuning can make strange things, and from users reports, the sound with 2box get flatten and add mid eq on the original sound.

Yeah the DrumIt-3 may have a few limitations but at least when combined with various hardware and VSTs (plus Lustark software) it could provide better bangs for your bucks than a Strike kit. That should make Alesis work harder to convince us their flagship module & kits are a viable/reliable option.
