Seriously this module  will end up improved DM10 with more memory

Yeah I reckon buying the Steven Slate Drums 5 VST (when it's available) may be a preferred option instead of also waiting for the Pearl Mimic module. Although it's still only at beta version stage according to this post: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/982501-any-news-stevens-slate-drums-5-a-7.html#post11987562

What is odd is it's in beta stage?
SSD5 has been for sale in the Sweetwater catalog since Nov 2014..listed as "New"
It's currently in the Summer 2016 catalog..pg 508 ..no longer "New"

It just never became "available"..

Just responding in this more relevant topic ..........

I guess Steven Slate is dealing with a similar dilemma to FXpansion when they adapted BFD Eco to the NFUZD module:
 https://www.fxpansion.com/products/bfdeco-nfuzd/

Maybe they'll provide a scaled-down version of SSD5 for the Mimic module and make expansion packs available:
 (http://www.stevenslatedrums.com/products/ex/)  (http://www.stevenslatedrums.com/products/platinum/)

So let's wait and see if SSD5 (Platinum equivalent) remains as 'beta' version beyond its ETA in mid-July!

If you read above in this thread:

Some answers from Alex:

4. Is the library in the module a reduced or full version of SSD5?
" Full version except SSD5 has two stereo room mics, while in Mimic they are mixed in one stereo room mic."

The NFUZD module had to take light version of BFD, because of the horrible 512MB memory on the module, no vst sound can play correctly with 512MB memory. Alex said it use 20GB of 60GB Module capacity for the MIMIC PRO, they reserved space for later expansion.

OK, it makes sense that all SSD5 Platinum kits should be included in Mimic Pro with its $2000+ price tag.

I'll try to be optimistic about this module, unless its expected features are compromised!

At 2000$ price, I don't think they want to release basic drum sound with brand new tech module and get terrible feedback for the sound, if you see the sweetwater flyers, the SSD5 have the EX version which is the light version for 79$ and PL version for 149$.

Overall this module should be one of the top on the market for the sound and easy to use and supports expansion for later, also nothing is fixed as stated in development we don't know yet ;)

Confirmed By Steven:

"Sounds will be no different than what is available in the upcoming SSD5, including the deep editing control"

We will have the full feature in the Pearl MIMIC PRO, this confirm there is a lots of things not implemented yet and feature not revealed until final release.

What is interesting is Toontrack, Fxpansion, Vdl2, Zildjian are already official sound partner with Pearl  for the eprolive, we might see this with Pearl Mimic and much more ;-)

That's a bit of a stretch. Those "official sound partners" with Pearl for eprolive came out with one maybe two sound sets for the Pearl REDbox back in 2010/2011. They have done nothing since. Some of those sound sets were developed originally for the DM10 (which means they were being made long before eprolive/redbox existed). Some how they ended up as part of the deal when Pearl got the rights to use Alesis tech under their name.

Could they become sound partners again? Sure, but not because they made some set for the Pearl REDbox almost six year ago. Remember Steven Slate made the new MIMIC, not Pearl. It is not in Steven Slate best interest to put his competitors products on his device. Pearl will not be able to put anything in the new MIMIC without the help of Steven Slate. How do I know this?, because Pearl had to use Alesis for most of it's tech support on the REDbox. You may not have been around at the time, but there were a few reports of Alesis DM10's being sold with Pearl REDbox OS by accident (of course it may have been PearlREDboxes with DM10 OS, I don't really recall which way it was. I'd have to search alesisdrummer). Those modules had to go back to Alesis to be "re-flashed".

At least there was a bridge and communication with them, if you click on toontrack there is 3 kits released from them,  zildjian one kits, steven slate 2 kits, the others genre area, I don't know where these kits sound came from, there is no company name on them.

Well about the interest for others vst, if you read the mimic pro thread, at Vdrum.com Sergey told VST company read this thread, about possible to have them, and I know personally it's possible,   I don't see bad situation having others vst add ons with the mimic pro, it will only increase sales of the module and reach more customers.

Unsure if it has been posted yet, but the MIMP24B model now is 120GB SSD!!!!

Seriously, Alesis needs to see this as a serious threat to market share.

Others VST addons will make much more sale for Pearl module, this is the majors points. Possibility are going more to positif side, after developer recent comment at vdrums in pearl mimic thread, by possibility of allowing multi-sample imports for users end,  and allowing both multi-sample+multi-channel for 3rd party company such Toontrack. This would be game changer module and would not check any others modules for years.

There is no doubt in my mind this module will be something special, it offer multichannel sound\ multilayer sound, no module is doing this on the market.

Excuse my ignorance, but what makes this so much better than grabbing a 2box in which I can load a VST? Listening to 2box with loaded VST compared to this and I cannot really tell that much of a difference.  To the casual user like me I would think the 2box might require more work to get the VST loaded, but it is half the price.

That's very impressive! I noticed he is using a Pearl single zone hi-hat and Roland cymbals. I don't know if people could here it, but at one point he showed the rim triggers working on the drums. I just couldn't tell if there was velocity sensitivity on them. He only hit them once. I still would like to see a dual zone hi-hat being used.

2box you are limited with the sound you imports, you cannot do anything later, which could be a pain, they don't have multi-channel samples, don't have DPS, separate EQ\compression for each separate instruments, you can't set your mic level or snare bottom\head or for each instruments etc, remember this module is ready to play, with editing, separate head phone mix, click track, and you get supports from the company with new expansion pack and possible affiliation, 128GB storage, the module will have various pad manufacture profiles already made.

2box is great, but you need to works alot and you can't edit later, until you redone again all these procedure and triggering system is not the same, average people don't know how to do it,  buying various vst, importing, exporting etc.

Yes hihat dual zone will be supported, he stated before, just these video was made earlier, after the announcement.

Notice the cymbal ride are Roland 3 zone working, and 2 crash from Roland.

This is what I have been waiting for in a module, and the price is about what I would expect. I will wait until it's out for about 12 months to get the reviews, let them do the updates and get the bugs out before I drop that much coin. Next Christmas is my target date to purchase. Combine this with the new Alesis mesh pads and you have a great set of drums.

Gee if all the Mimic Pro snare sounds have a similar dynamic range, I'd be tempted to get a 14" Tru Trac drumHead for my acoustic snare drum: http://pearldrum.com/products/kits/electronic-drumsets/epro-live/#heads

Here's a countdown timer to NAMM-17 when we should get some user feedback about the SSD-5 kits: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/launch?iso=20170119T00&p0=783&msg=NAMM+2017&ud=2&font=slab#

In my opinion it would be better to make your own with mesh head, less noise on the surface or Alesis with mesh head

These room sound change are multi-channel sample for each instruments, have is own faders, for close mic, overhead mic, room mic, bottom head\top snare mic, not using fake DSP to simulate room sound, but the actual real room recording.

I can see that this is going to be a great module, but that is all people are going to be interested in. Pearl will not sell more ePro live kits. Vdrum users just want the module and if that module isn't 100% totally compatible with Roland Vdrums, there are going to be a lot of upset people. 99% isn't going to cut it and to be honest I highly doubt it will be truly 100% compatible to Roland Vdrums.

Yes, I know they say it will, but there is always some incompatibility when mixing different company's equipment. Especially when you are talking patented equipment and Roland has a lot of patents on their Vdrums.

I would not worried about the pad setting, AD5 do a terrific job on this, In my opinion the triggering only need to be adapted to Pearl mimic sound engine alone and exclusive, to trigs well, not to Roland sound module patents and live alternation, it's another engine. Also the developer just said  "We have big plans for extending both the software part of the module and the sound content", if there is something or issue he will fix it. Also many are using DIY now.

Apparently the aD5 only triggers Tom sounds from the head zone of various pads, so Pearl/Slate should do a better job of adapting Roland and Yamaha (2 or 3 zone) pads to the Mimic Pro.
