Will be my first eletronic kit, have some doubts
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:47:10 PM »
Hi there, my first time here

I'm really thinking on buy the DM10 Stryke Pro - Alesis DM10X Kit Premium Ten-Piece Professional Electronic Drum Set, Mylar Drum Pads, but have some doubts to ask, hope to be on the right place around here at forum. So here I go:

1 - Can I buy the kit with the Mylar Drum Head and put the Mesh Drum Head later?  It´s really improve the feeling with the Mesh, I do not have how to test it, it´s looks like the Vdrum feels?!

2 - It's really worth invest on a Alesis PROXHIHAT Controller for DM10 & DM8 Electronic Drums Pads? Can I put it on and any HI hat Cymbal Stand?

Thanks in advance

Welcome!

So are you looking at the Strike kits? I don't think those actually exist for sale yet. The DM10s are still available and are available with stock mesh heads (so no need for a conversion!).

If you're getting a DM10 second hand (as I did), yes you can convert to mesh. Something as simple as adding a foam pad and the mesh head can work. There are also conversion kits available for purchase.

While I do not have any experience with the pro hat myself, word around here is that it's...not great? Some have had success after some mods (like better springs and stuff). Not sure it would work with the DM8 module either but I'm not sure about that.
Here this whole time I thought you were the troll with a heart of gold. Instead you're just a troll with a real troll's heart.

Hey Iassa, welcome around here!

1.) Yes you can. Our Forum master, Hellfire, himself once made this awesome tutorial on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rfUtvtEjyI. This is geared towards the former version of the DM10, the "Pro", so I'm not quite sure it applies to this as well. You can also just google "Alesis DM10X mesh head conversion]

2.) I'm not sure about compatibility either, but I'm pretty certain you can mount it on any Hi-hat stand.

Have fun choosing and playing your e kit!

Well, mylar is used in "real" drum heads too, so this isn't actually too far from reality. But in general I think the mesh heads are judged to be more realistic (as much as "in general" and personal opinions go together).

What is quite certain is that the mesh heads give you more of a bounce / rebound - and that can be a good sort of handrail when starting out. Here's the bounce compared: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU_Emfcrso0
