Roland cy-8 on DM6
« on: June 08, 2011, 02:59:39 PM »
Hi,

I bought the Alesis DM6 Express kit a month ago and I love it.
Only downside is that I don't find the cymbals being sensitive enough. On the Snare I can just drop the stick and it will make a sound by almost every bounce. I would like the same effect on a Ride cymbal. So I Just purchased a Roland CY-8, cause I've read that it should be very sensitive.
Well it's not. It's a lot worse than the cheaper Alesis DM cymbals.
What can be wrong here? Can I turn up the sensitivity somewhere?

According to the DM6 manual:

SELECTING TRIGGER VOICES
There are 108 built-in Voices that you can assign to
each trigger. To select a voice:
1. Press VOICE to enter Voice Select Mode. The
LCD will display the current Voice number and
the Voice Indicator will light up.
2. Use VALUE +/- to select a Voice.
3. To adjust a trigger's volume (which is different
from the Master or Kit volume levels), press
VOLUME to enter Volume Adjustment Mode.
The Volume Indicator will light up and the LCD
will display the trigger's current volume. Use
VALUE +/- to adjust it.
When you are finished, press VOICE to re-enter Voice Selection Mode or press another button.
DM10x2 Pro with surge cyms + additional surge crash and tom + Roland PD125 snare + Roland KD120 Kick with Iron Cobra double pedals, all with mesh heads(HellFire conversion - BBIII), DM7 USB, USB Pro, Trigger I/O, Tama percussion, Conga's, Bongo's, Roto Toms, cow bell and block.

The volume is good.
Problem is: I have to hit the cymbal very hard to get a sound out of it.. Sensitivity is the problem. It seems they've left out the sensitivity adjustments on DM6. Weird!

I Found a solution!

Being a guitarist I have a couple of booster pedals I my drawer. I connected an EHX LPB-1 between the Cy-8 cymbal pad and the DM6 module. Turned up the gain, and the pad became a lot more responsive.

So anyone having problems with sensitivity on a DM6 - buy a cheap booster pedal..

@everhaunt. Good suggestion with a booster between module and cy8.
Interesting if this can also pop up the volume for a hi-hat.
Can you try?
